Huduma Namba ‘prone to hacking’, says expert

”A witness Tuesday told court that the digital platform Huduma Namba “is prone to hacking”.

Appearing before Justices Weldon Korir, Pauline Nyamweya and Mumbi Ngugi, information technology expert Anand Venkatanatayanan said there was nothing new in the technology.

“Kenya is historically known and hackers know the loopholes developers leave. What I see is in other systems, the technology is exactly what we have seen before,” said Mr Venkatanatayanan.

The cyber security and computer fraud forensic analysis expert who has worked in his profession for the last 21 years, was testifying in a case in which the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), the Nubian Rights Forum and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHCR) challenged the launch of National Integrted Identity Management System (NIIMs).”

Is this meant to be a joke? Saying that a software is prone to hacking is like saying a cow is prone to farting. What kind of joke is this?

Google, Apple, Amazon, Yahoo…all top tech companies have been hacked in the past! Heck, even Pentagon and other top security agencies have been hacked in the past!

And anybody saying HUDUMA NAMBA infringes on their privacy, and yet uses a smartphone or any internet-connected gadget, is either naive, or very insincere.

Unlike HUDUMA NAMBA, where the collection of personal information is declared publicly, the tech companies have been collecting much more personal information - including voice & facial recognition using your gadgets’ microphones/cameras - discretely, for ULTERIOR PURPOSES.

I support HUDUMA NAMBA 101%. It is a necessity because of Kenya’s unique circumstances. HUDUMA NAMBA is a national security issue. The NGOs’ suit is an attempt to sabotage Kenya.

Arizona sues Google for ‘misleading’ users by secretly tracking their personal data on smartphones.

Google has been accused of collecting data on people’s whereabouts and their searches even when they disabled these options on their mobile devices.

The lawsuit, filed by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, alleges that certain apps developed by the Silicon Valley-based company tracked and stored location records and search history on Android-running smartphones even when users turned off these options.

The apps that allow the collection of personal data without users’ consent include mapping and weather, which violates Arizona’s consumer protection laws, the lawsuit says.
