DR Congo Presidential Elections

Post by xtyrt5 » Sun Jan 06, 2019 1:59 pm

Statement of South Africa’s ambassador to the UN, after Security Council meeting on DRC elections on January 5 2019. Video transcript(partial):

“The NGO people can say whatever they want…SADC will wait for official announcement of results…there’s a process about how to handle disputes….Candidates agreed to respect election results and not to inflame DRC…

“SADC, AU personnel are on the ground and confirm counting is still ongoing, about 40% complete.”

NB: Interesting to watch the video, then read the tweet referencing it by the Deputy Africa Director at Human Rights Watch, Ida Sawyer:
(video attached to tweet)

The video/tweet give a glimpse into what is at play currently in the Democratic Republic of Congo vis-à-vis the presidential election results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (French: Commission Électorale Nationale Indépendante or CENI) has declared Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo is the winner of the presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“Felix Tshisekedi has won Congo's presidential election, the election commission has announced.”

SADC calls for support of DR Congo President-elect Félix Antoine Tshilombo Tshisekedi. This more or less settles the matter about the elections.

Something to note: There are many actors, some Congolese, others foreign, who have been claiming that Martin Fayulu won the election, by upto 62%(!) of the vote. There is only one problem with this assertion: All the entities saying that wanted Fayulu to win. Enough said.

To Western powers: At the moment, there are only 2 possible choices open to DRC:

1. Western powers leave Congo alone. DRC attains peace.

2. Western powers decide to place undue pressure on the new government. Chaos reign in the Congo.

The biggest favours Western powers can bestow upon DRC:

1. Do not send any Jewish personnel in their diplomatic mission in DRC.

2. Advice CEOs of public broadcasters not to send any Jewish personnel to DRC(journalists, producers etc).
