DR Congo Presidential Elections
Democratic Republic of the Congo president Joseph Kabila is under pressure to ensure the General elections scheduled to be held on 23 December 2018 are free and fair. On November 28, Cindy McCain, widow of Arizona Senator John McCain tweeted: “Sanctions if DRC doesn’t do a better job governing, human rights. No more business as usual!”

‘Power is a service’ Congo archbishop tells candidates: https://www.catholicworldreport.com/201 ... andidates/
During an open-air Mass on the feast of Christ the King, the Archbishop of Kinshasa Fridolin Ambongo Besungu has urged politicians to preserve national unity and practice leadership as service ahead of upcoming elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Among those in the crowd were rival presidential candidates Martin Fayulu and Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary.
Votes must be sought using all means necessary.

According to Herman J. Cohen, former ambassador & US Asst. Secretary of State, Tshisekedi should win if elections are free and fair, but Shadary can only win if Kabila rigs in his favour.

In terms of economic potential, DRC is the richest country in Africa. By far. It is not only richest in minerals, but also richest in water resources, rainforests etc. Ironically, it is this huge wealth that has made Congo be unstable and poor for so long.
I hope Western intelligence agencies are looking into the backgrounds of the West-based prominent people commenting about the coming DRC elections. Clearly, these people don’t have the interests of the Congolese at heart.
If they were so concerned about democracy in DRC, they surely must have said something about Saudi Arabia’s ‘democracy’ recently? So, which entities that are studying Congolese current situation are also acting in the interests of the Congolese people?
1. African Union (AU)
2. Southern African Development Community (SADC)
Plea to the US, EU & UN: There are many international players very keen on destabilising Congo further as they pursue their selfish interests. To avoid further destabilisation of the country, the US, EU & UN should only be guided by the reports from AU and SADC as to matters concerning Congo’s elections.
Other reports coming from busybodies, suspicious foreign ‘interested parties’, biased international media and NGOs should be treated with total contempt.

About 80% of the materials for staging the December 23 election in Democratic Republic of Congo's capital, Kinshasa, were destroyed when an election warehouse was torched overnight, officials said Thursday.

The candidate who stands to gain from this is probably behind the arson.

Re: Will DR Congo’s Next President be Tshisekedi, Fayulu or Shadary?
Dr Denis Mukwege is a gynecologist and human rights activist from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He received the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. He states in this New York Times article: “President [Joseph]Kabila now must resign, and his corrupt group of cronies must be replaced. Congo desperately needs a technocratic caretaker government to reorient the government while overseeing the holding of free and fair elections.”
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/21/opin ... tions.html
Dr Mukwege probably doesn’t know that the matter of a transitional government was floated a long time ago, but the ‘international-powers-that-be’ couldn’t go through that path because they believed their candidate would win the elections.
https://steemit.com/africa/@axious/war- ... -congo-drc
The ‘international-powers-that-be’, believing their candidate would win the election, fired up the Congolese about the upcoming elections, where Congo would experience the “first peaceful transfer of power“. The coming elections have become like a pregnant mammal, who must give birth at a particular time, whether she likes it or not.
It is now too late to talk about a ‘caretaker government’.
Mr Kabila is not the best person to be president of the Congo. The problem is that, if patriotism was a measurable quantity, Kabila’s patriotism to Congo would be around 20%, while his detractors’ patriotism would be around -20%.
