Dr Denis Mukwege is a gynecologist and human rights activist from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He received the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. He states in this New York Times article: “President [Joseph]Kabila now must resign, and his corrupt group of cronies must be replaced. Congo desperately needs a technocratic caretaker government to reorient the government while overseeing the holding of free and fair elections.”

Dr Mukwege probably doesn’t know that the matter of a transitional government was floated a long time ago, but the ‘international-powers-that-be’ couldn’t go through that path because they believed their candidate would win the elections.

The ‘international-powers-that-be’, believing their candidate would win the election, fired up the Congolese about the upcoming elections, where Congo would experience the “first peaceful transfer of power“. The coming elections have become like a pregnant mammal, who must give birth at a particular time, whether she likes it or not.
It is now too late to talk about a ‘caretaker government’.
Mr Kabila is not the best person to be president of the Congo. The problem is that, if patriotism was a measurable quantity, Kabila’s patriotism to Congo would be around 20%, while his detractors’ patriotism would be around -20%.
